Earlier this summer, I was talking to my co-worker & friend, Andrew, about taking his family photos. He had booked a session a couple years ago when their kids were ages 1 and 3. Now that Lawson was almost 3 and Kennedy was almost 5, it was due time to document this adorable crew once again.
As we tossed around location ideas, the topic of “shooting near water” came up. Andrew jokingly mentioned Lake Michigan. Since this is a 3+ hour drive from Metro Detroit, I commented that this was “just a tad” outside my normal travel vicinity. We both laughed and dismissed the idea, but then I couldn’t get the thought out of my head. Because, while I’ve been to Lake Michigan many times, I’ve never had the opportunity to shoot there. Plus, I’ve been wanting to get back to West Michigan with Violet, so....
...Andrew talked to his super-cool wife, Kristin, who got a couple friends on board (the wonderful Scott family…who you will see in an upcoming blog post), and next thing I knew, we were set for a double-family Lake Michigan photo shoot extravaganza!
Our shoot was in South Haven, Michigan, at Van Buren State Park, and the location did not disappoint. Tons of sugary white sand between our toes. The lake was….well, Lake Michigan…so it was just awesome, as usual. The water was calm, and we couldn’t have asked for better weather. It was a perfect summer evening on the beach. Add to this, two fun, laid-back, adorable families, and you have a recipe for a pretty amazing photo shoot.
A big thanks to both families for including me and my little girl in your West Michigan vacation, for being tag-team babysitters to Violet while I was busy shooting, for organizing the entire trip, and for the wine and laughs back at the hotel. This will definitely go down as one of my favorite and most memorable shoots.
I considered blogging both families together, but then I realized this post would be a mile long! So, I am splitting this into two separate posts. Scott family...you will be next/soon!! First up....meet the Copenhavers: Andrew, Kristin, Kennedy and Lawson.
Thanks for looking. Until next time! :) xo~denise
