Rochester, Michigan - Child & Family Photographer

I’ve had the pleasure of documenting Charlotte’s 3 month, 6 month and 9 month milestones, and now we can add her 1 year photos to the list.  She braved the cold for a few snowy, outdoor pictures, and then we warmed up in the studio with a cake smash grand finale!  Below are some favorites from our shoot.

 She wasn't a huge fan of the snow...

 But she was a fan of pulling Dad's hair!

 Happy on Mom's lap.

 Wait....what?  You want me to leave Mom's lap????

 iPhone's make everything better.  :)

 Wardrobe change and a quick break before the big event!

 She needed a little help to get started...

 This is terrible!!!

 Ok, maybe this isn't so bad.  :)

 Actually, this is quite delicious!

 Aaaaand it's a wrap!

Great job on your cake smash, Charlotte, and Happy 1st Birthday!!

Gavin turns Two {Metro Detroit Child & Family Photograper}

This is Gavin, and I've been photographing his adorable face since he was just a baby.  I was looking back at his 6 month, 1 year and 18 month photos, and was feeling all warm and fuzzy about the fact that I've gotten to watch this guy grow from baby to toddler.  I really do love when clients call me back to photograph another milestone for their child, because I love to see what they're up to.  How they've changed and how their little personalities have developed.  When I first met Gavin, he was a chunky baby with peach fuzz hair who could barely sit up on his own, and now he's running around my studio rearranging the furniture and climbing up and down step stools! After some fun in the studio, we were able to get outside for some fun in the snow.  (Shout out to Mother Nature...thanks for the 30 degree temps!).   I seriously had a blast with this shoot.  Chasing a toddler around in the snow is good for the soul.  I would pretend to fall down every once in a while to get Gavin to stop and look at me (sneaky photographer trick), and every time he'd come and give me his hand to help me up.  I mean, seriously, this boy just melted my heart.  And then he'd throw snow at me (which was totally my fault, because, well, I may have started it).  Two...such a great age.  Tom & Angela, this is when the fun really starts.  :)

I was working hard for these giggles!

 He brought a few friends.

 He also really wanted to escape from the studio.  We had to lock the door!

Outside, and taking it all in.

 This guy is FAST.

 A brief moment of standing still.  :)

 That face!!!  Gavin you are so handsome.

And, it's a wrap!

Tom, Angela, Gavin...thank you for another wonderful shoot!  Enjoy your photos!  I can't wait to find out which ones make it onto your photo wall.  :)

Random Thoughts on Winter & Studio Mini Sessions {Metro Detroit - Child Photographer}

Winter.  It’s in full swing here in Michigan. I used to hate it, but when you have a season that can drag on for 6+ months, you better just learn to embrace it. Two things have helped me in that regard.

  1. I got a winter hobby - snowboarding. It was a long, painful process learning this sport in my 30s, but I’m so grateful that I stuck with it, because now I have something to look forward to when the white stuff starts falling from the sky.
  2. I had a child. There are few things better than seeing your kid in the snow. I mean, snow is like the best thing ever when you’re a kid! And witnessing their excitement and joy… it’s pretty magical if you ask me. Also, having a kid forces you to get out there and play too. When’s the last time you made a snow angel? Or started a snowball fight. All of a sudden, winter doesn’t seem so bad when you get to play in the snow too.

The one thing I do NOT love about winter though, is it makes photography a lot more challenging. The days are shorter (meaning less light), and the weather is unpredictable.  Two strikes against a natural light photographer!

BUT, that’s where the studio comes in! The reason I took the plunge with the studio was to create more opportunities to shoot during the cold, winter months. So, this long-winded story about my love/hate relationship with winter is my way of announcing that I’ll be holding my first-ever STUDIO MINI SESSION in March!

Saturday, March 7th to be exact.

My studio set-up is very simple. A few nice, neutral backdrops and natural lighting…and most importantly (this is where you guys come in), an adorable subject in front of my camera. Below is an example of what you can expect to see with your studio session. If you like what you see, please check out the details at the end of this post, and then drop me a note to schedule your spot.

Mini sessions always book up quickly, so get ‘em while they’re hot! Here are the details…

  •  When: Saturday, March 7th (morning and early afternoon)
  • Where: 4477 Collins Road, Oakland Township, Michigan (just a few minutes north of Downtown Rochester)
  • What: 20 minutes of shooting time, 7 digital images of your choosing
  • How much: $100 due the day of your session.

A big thanks to my little buddy Ben (the cutie featured in these images) for being an awesome model and for laughing at my jokes. And thanks to Ben’s mom for being cool with the candy bribery that was going on here. ;)
